Rites Held For L. Brandt

Funeral services for Louis H. Brandt were held Thursday, May 22, at the Garnavillo High School Gym. Approximately 350 persons attended the services conducted by Mr. Norman Crawford of Jackson, Mich., Mr. Oswald MacLeod of Hickory, N. C., and Mr. Henry G. Wahls of Garnavillo.

Louis H. Brandt was born June 23, 1886, in Garnavillo to Henry and Mary Brandt. He received his education in Garnavillo and at Upper Iowa University in Fayette.

On November 23, 1910, he married Amanda Matt, and to this union were born 5 children, 3 sons and 2 daughters.

On March 12, 1922, he became a child of God through personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. His personal life and his goals were re-directed following his commitment to Christ.

Farming was his vocation, actively pursed until 1940, when he moved to Garnavillo. However, he spent much of his life preaching the Gospel, teaching the Scriptures and in a ministry of encouragement.

In the fall of 1979, at the age of 93, because of failing health, he and Mrs. Brandt took up residence at the Linn Manor Care Center at Marion, Iowa. He passed away quietly and peacefully on May 19, 1980.

Mr. Brandt was preceded in death by 4 sisters, Anna Allyn, Louise Becker, Tille Kramer and Alvina Stickfort.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Amanda; 3 sons, Valmah and Robert of Garnavillo, and Lloyd of Minneapolis, Minn.; 2 daughters, Alice Gould of Murray, Kentucky, and Helene Zedicher of Minneapolis; 16 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; a brother, Elmer, and a sister, Nettie Tischhauser of Bay Center, Washington.
