William C. Sass

Funeral services for William C. Sass, 76, were held Saturday afternoon, Jan. 16, at 2 o'clock in the Methodist church in Monona, with Rev. Paul V. Clements officiating.

Burial was in the City cemetery.

Mr. Sass died suddenly at his home, Tuesday morning, Jan. 12, 1965.

He was born the eldest of a family of nine children, a son of George and Louisa, nee Suelter, Sass, east of Farmersburg, Aug. 30, 1888.

As a young man he was engaged in farming on a farm south of Monona.

He was married to Marie Schmitz of Monona, June 4, 1930. They lived in a home on the southeast side of Monona until 1931 when they moved to their present home on North Page St.

For a number of years he did painting with his brother-in-law, George Welthorn, and later with his brother, Eldo.

In 1950 he and his son, Edward, started to farm his farm two miles south of Monona.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a son, Richard Henry, an infant granddaughter, a sister, Ella, and a brother, George.

He is survived by his wife, Marie; two sons, William John of Flushing, N.Y., and Edward Charles of Monona; one daughter, Carol Marie at home, and a granddaughter, Kimberly Janiece. Also four sisters, Mrs. Erwin (Mildred) Lembke of McGregor; Mrs. John (Lucy) Sass of Luana; Mrs. Harvey (Meta) Sass and Mrs. John (Leona) Froning of Monona; and two brothers, Hubert and Eldo of Monona.

Music at the services was provided by Mrs. Ben Frese and Mrs. Tom James, who sang two numbers, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Ivon J. Schultz.

Pallbearers were: Dale Kurth, Calvin Henkes, Norbert Lembke, Ramon Sass, Harland Kottman, Donald Sass, Elmer Marting, Jr., and Karl Wilker.
