Mr. George COON born Nov. 21st, 1818, in Duchess Co., New York.
Early in life he moved with his father and family to Canada and subsequently to Ill. In March, 1854, with his wife he came to Clayton Co., Iowa, and settled near Hardin, where he was living at the time of his death, Feb. 19th, 1892.
When a boy he was converted and baptized inthe Baptist church, but not having the privileges of his own church as in the east, he never again joined any denomination. He became at one time very indifferent and cold, but never fully relaxed his hold on Christ. For years prior to his death he lived a consistent christian life.
About 2 years ago he had an attack of la grippe from which he never recovered fully and since which time he has gradually declined in health, sometimes better and sometimes worse.
On last Friday morning, apparently without any pain, he fell asleep at the age of 73 yrs., 2 mo. and 28 days. The funeral services were held fromthe Hardin church. A very large concourse of old friends and acquaintances fully attesting the high esteem in which he was held.
