D. E. LIVINGOOD FUNERAL FRIDAY
Funeral services for D. E. Livingood, 86, were held from the family home last Friday afternoon, Nov. 7, at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Paul Kitterer of Elkader officiated. Burial was in the East Side cemetery. Mr. Livingood died at his home about 8:30 o'clock in the evening on November 4, 1958.
He was born, in the home where he died, on May 23, 1872. He was ill but a few days prior to his death, and had been operating the harness shop and shoe repair that he opened on March 12, 1912. He was recognized as the owner of Elkader's oldest business under one continuous operator.
Prior to opening his leather goods shop, Livingood had taught school for 12 years. As a hobby he was interested in harness horse racing and was considered an authority and historian on race track events. As a member of the Elkader Fair board he served for many years as starter for local harness races. He was for a time official starter for harness horse racing events at the Iowa state fair.
Mr. Livingood was the last survivor of his immediate family. He is survived only by two cousins. Two sisters, Anna and Mattie, preceded him death.
