OLD RESIDENT CALLED TO REWARD
Mary A. Stacy, wife of David Livingood, was born July 2, 1834 and departed this life Dec. 7, 1919, being 85 years, 5 months, and 5 days of age on the day of her death.
She was the eldest daughter of Edward and Mary A. Stacy. She was born in England and came with her parents to Hamilton, Canada, at the age of about 2 1/2. They resided there for about 2 years. She then moved with her parents to a farm purchased and located upon the site of Evanston, Ill. They resided there until she grew to be a young lady, when her parents decided to come west. They came to Iowa in 1857, and located on a farm one mile northwest of Volga City. While residing in this vicinty she met and married her husband in 1861.
To this union were born 2 daughters, Anna E. Livingood of San Bernardino, Calif., principal of the Adams School, and Mattie M. Livingood, principal of the Pre-vocational School of Sioux City, Iowa and one son, David Edward, a former principal in Clayton County schools, who has been engaged in the retail harness business in Elkader for the past 8 years.
Her husband is 89 years old.
Two sisters, Mrs. G. A. Packer of Sioux City and Mrs. J. A. Parson of Volga City also remain to mourn her.
Resided 58 years as husband and wife and have the distinction of having resided here for the longest period of continuous residence in the history of Elkader.
Member of the 1st Episcopal Church of Chicago all her life, having entered the church of her faith in early childhood.
Mrs. Livingood came here when Elkader was but a small village and has lived within 100 yards of where her first home was located when she entered it as a bride.
She was a woman of strong character....she was conscious to the end, quoting scriptures and repeating hymns of praise a few minutes before she dropped peacefully to eternal sleep.
Funeral services were held at the home at 2:00 yesterday afternoon and at the Evangelical Church at 2:30. Buried at East Side Cemetery.
