From Elkader Weekly Register, 29 July 1886:
"Death of an early settler. At his home in Wagner township, on Thursday night of last week, occurred the death of David Jones, one of the earliest settlers of that township. His death was caused by paralysis of the brain.
Deceased came to this county over thirty years ago, and has always lived in Wagner township.
His wife died some time ago, but he leaves six children and a host of friends to mourn his loss."
