LUVER CARL PALAS

Mr. Luver Carl Palas of St. Olaf was stricken Sat. afternoon, March 17, 1973 while at work at the County Land Fill, and was pronounced dead on arrival at Central Community Hospital in Elkader. He was a lifelong member of Clayton County.

Mr. Luver Palas, 68, was the son of Louis J. and Mary K. Lenth Palas, and was born at St. Olaf on May 22, 1904.

He received his education at the rural school near his home and at the Elkader High School.

At St. Olaf on May 17, 1923, he was united in marriage to Esther Ida Wilker. Their home was blessed with three sons and three daughters.

Mr. Palas was both baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at Zion Church in Clayton Center. For about the past 30 years he was a member of Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader.

For the past 18 years, Mr. and Mrs. Palas have lived at their home which is located on the farm where Luver was born and raised and where he spent all but about 10 years of his life--years that were also spent farming near St. Olaf.

Mr. Palas was active in the life and work of the community. He served as President of the St. Olaf telephone company; he was committeeman for the Clayton County ASCS offices; and for 18 years he served as township clerk. He had also been employed at the Farmersburg Elevator, the Great Plains Supply Co. in Farmersburg, and at the time of his death, was employed by Clayton County.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by one granddaughter.

He is survived by his wife and six children: LuVern of St. Olaf, Clifford of Elkader, John of Farmersburg, Mrs. Kenneth (Yvonne) Frye of Clayton, Mrs. Donald (Jennadine) Walters of Elkader, and Mrs. Roger (Julaine) Mohning of Monona. He is also survived by two brothers, Harley of Farmersburg and Sylvan of Berwyn, Ill., and by one sister, Mrs. Gaylord (Iva) Oelke of Monona. Survivors also include 20 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and three nephews.

Funeral services were held Tues., March 20 in Peace UCC in Elkader at 10:30 a.m. Alvin Volle officiated, Jean Welsh was organist. She accompanied the soloist, Lenora Mae Anderson.

Burial was Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Clayton Center. Pallbearers were Gary, Ronald, David, Mark and John L. Palas, all grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were Alan Baker and Rodney Mohning.

Ushers were Dennis Harring and Alfred Cook.
