Services Held For Oscar Beckett
Oscar (Buzz) Beckett, 67, of McGregor, died Tuesday afternoon, January 31, at his home.
Funeral services were held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Thornburg Funeral home in McGregor with Pastor R. D. Ehlers officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
Oscar Gottlieb Verni Beckett, son of Victor and Leona (Keehner) Beckett, was born on March 24, 1910 in Farmersburg Township. He was baptized on May 29, 1910, in St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church of Garnavillo, Iowa by Rev. Victor Hackbarth.
He received his education in the schools of the McGregor area. He farmed for several years, worked at Myers Elevator in McGregor several years and then worked for Prairie Ready Mix until his retirement.
On March 4, 1957, he was united in marriage with Frances (the paper is tore here but the last four letters can be made out to be "mann") at St. Paul Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Bruce, and a sister, Olive Kadlec.
Surviving him are: his wife, Frances; one daughter, Karen (Mrs. Larry Evans) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one stepson, Eugene Nevermann of Monona; 2 sisters, Mrs. Laverne (Barbara) Mitchell of Loves Park, Ill., and Mrs. Lois Fish of Mason City, Iowa; 2 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
