Funeral services were held for Alexander Jay Malone, 83, at 2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon in the Methodist church with the Rev. F.V. Getty as the pastor. Hymns were sung by Mrs. Kenneth Esch and Mrs. B.W. Talcott, Miss Joyce Preston at the piano. Burial was in the Strawberry Point cemetery. The Gill Funeral Service took charge of the service.
Mr. Malone was born March 28, 1856, at West Union, the son of Samuel and Taulema Malone. The family moved to this community when Mr. Malone was a young boy and he has lived here practically his entire life.
He married Sophia Wiltse February 20, 1878 in Strawberry Point by the Methodist pastor. After celebrating the couple's golden wedding anniversary in 1928, the children have celebrated their anniversaries each year following at their home. Mrs. Malone passed away August 28, 1938.
Mr. Malone passed away suddenly Thursday morning at the home of his son, Clyde, at Manchester where he had been visiting for the past several months. The death is thought to be due to a heart attack.
Surviving are: five sons, Clyde of Manchester, Clare of Savanna, Illinois, and Omar J., Lee, and Cephas of Strawberry Point. There are five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
