Esther Mary Palas

Esther Mary Palas, 85, formerly of Luana and Monona, died Thursday at the Good Samaritan Center, Postville, where she had been a resident.

Services were Saturday, Feb. 23, 1985, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Monona, with Rev. Harold Ward officiating. Funeral arrangements were made by Schultz's Funeral Home.

Burial was in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Luana. Pallbearers were Lorraine Lenth, Harold Lenth, Clarence Haberichter, Harlin Miller, Raymond Doerring and Duaine Davis.

Esther Mary Palas was born April 24, 1899 in Monona Township of Clayton County. The daughter of John P. and Dorothea (Harnack) Lenth. She was baptized July 16, 1899 at the Lutheran Church in Clayton Center and confirmed March 31, 1912 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Luana.

She received her education at Evergreen rural school, Luana. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Monona and a honorary member of the Hope Circle of the ALCW. March 8, 1922 she was married to Arthur Fred Palas. They had 2 sons and one daughter.

After moving to Monona she was a cook for the Grand Cafe for a number of years.

Preceding her in death was her husband in 1976, a grandson Bennett in 1956 and granddaughter-in-law, Rosena, in 1981, 5 brothers, Gustav, John, Ernest, Wilbert and Louis Lenth and 2 sisters, Ella Jarms and Hilda Miller.

Surviving are 2 sons, Duaine and Gerald and one daughter D'Elda, 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 2 brothers Elmer and Herbert Lenth both of Monona and 1 sister, Mrs. Vern (Nora) Haberichter of Monona.
