Demise of David Drummond - Passing of an Esteemed Citizen and a Vallant Warrior

David Drummond died yesterday morning at his home on Caledonia Place aged 75 years. Mr. Drummond was born in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1822 and there learned the carpenter's trade. In 1852 he and other Scotchmen came to this country and founded the colony of Clydesdale in Clayton county, Iowa. Later he moved to McGregor, where with Andrew Anderson he engaged in the undertaking business.

In 1861 Mr. Drummond enlisted in company B, 21st Iowa infantry, of which he became first lieutenant. He remained in the service until mustered out at the close of the war.

In 1874 Mr. Drummond moved to Dubuque and for nineteen years he was employed in A.Y. McDonald's factory. Five years ago his health failed him and he was compelled to retire. Three years ago he sustained a stroke of paralysis which affected his speech, and last spring he suffered another stroke. The gradual growth of the paralysis was the cause of his death.

Mr. Drummond was married in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1849, to Margaret Stevens, who died in 1864. His second wife was Abbie A. Bailey, of Waukon, who survives him. To them were born five children, of whom the surviving are Charles Willis, Florence Myra and Andrew Bailey.

Mr. Drummond was a member of Hyde Clark post, G.A.R., and the funeral will be held under the auspices of that organization. He was a man of sincere, generous and kindly nature and enjoyed the respect and esteem of all who knew him.
