It is with genuine sorrow that we record this week the death of Mr. Clifford E. Ryan, one of Honey Creek township's most loyal and outstanding citizens, and ever a friend to Edgewood and its business. Death resulted from angina pectoris, a heart ailment which has caused him intense pain, especially since last Saturday and to which he succumbed Tuesday morning, November 16.Clifford E. Ryan was born September 22, 1864, the eldest son of Daniel L. Ryan and his wife, Mary J. Williams, early pioneers of Delaware county. The home was north of Manchester and Mr. Ryan's schooling was obtained at the North Manchester school and later at Upper Iowa University in Fayette. Ever interested in farming he went from school to his chosen field and he had made such a success of farming that he owned 1,000 acres of land where his home is located.
About 50 years ago he was united in marriage with Miss Mae Meade and to this union two sons were born who have worked with their father, side by side all through the years. Four grandchildren have been added to the family circle and their love for the one who has gone and his beloved wife has been one of the many sources of happiness in his home and his farm.
Bring the eldest in a family of eight children his affection for the other brothers and sisters has been marked and all have respected his advice in council.
