Mrs. Jennie Wilcox is Called Home to Rest
Owing to the unfinished work of redecorating the interior of the M. E. churchm funeral services for Mrs. Jennie Wilcox were held in the Congregational church Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, conducted by a former pastor and close friend, Rev. C. W. Cleveland of Beaman, Iowa, assited by the local pastor, Rev. W. L. Feller and Rev. T. R. Gray, pastor of the local Congregational church. Two numbers, "He Giveth Sleep" and "Abide With Me" were sung by the male quartet, Claude Rulon, Don Rhines, Ray Minkler and Fred Smith, with Miss Margaret Kirk accompanist, in compliance with the request made by Mrs. Wilcox a short time before her death. Rev. and Mrs. Cleveland sang her favorite hymn, "He Will Do What He Promised to Do." The casket carriers were Worthy Robinson, Otto Berens, Roy Culbertson, Fred Robinson, Paul Berens and Don Rhines. Burial was made in the Edgewood cemetery near her husband and both of their children. The out of town relatives that attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Robinson pf Western Springs, Ill. and Mr. and Mrs. Abe Cox of Elizabeth, Ill.

Jennie Barker, daughter of Robert Parker and Sarah Smith, was born in Elizabeth, Ill., May 17, 1854 and passed in death to her reward at her home in Edgewood, Ia., Friday night, Nov. 12, 1937. she was 83 years, six months and 25 days of age. She spent her childhhod in Elizabeth and was united in marriage with Abram Wilcox in Elizabeth, November 9, 1876. To this union were born two children, Nellie and George, both deceased.
Nearly half a century she has been identified with the Edgewood community. Her husband passed away March 18, 1927. Ten years were spent on the farm northeast of town. For the past 38 years she has spent an active life residing in the same home from which she passed away. During the past number of winters she has closed the home to spend the cold season with her grandson, Paul Robinson and family in Western Springs, Ill. She loved her own home and had a host of friends for she made and held such.

Under the pastorate of Rev. C. W. Cleveland she united with the local Methodist church and had been active and regular in attendance when her health would permit. She was active in temperance work, delighted in reading and taking part in plays and in the work of Ladies Aid. Endowed with (here the obit is worn and torn so will try my best to get it right)a rich soprano voice she rendered good ?? of her talent. Fellow members of the choir will remember how she delighted in helping put on the ??? cantata, "The Nazarine" for ?? successive years.
With a keen mind she retained her ???lties to the end, often declaring ?? religious faith and willingness to go to her Heavenly home. It is thus the consolations of the Christian only can prepare us for our peacefull departure from this life.

Surviving are six grandchildren, Paul Robinson, Western Springs, Ill., Mrs. Faye Steele, Mitchellville, Ia., Raymond Robinson, Wyoming, Ilda Wilcox, South Dakota, Georgia Wilcox, Oregon and Dale Steele, California; seven great grandchildren and five sisters, Mrs. Eliz Gates of Pennsylvania, Mrs. Mary Erwin, Elizabeth, Ill., Mrs. Harriett Wilcox, Freeport, Ill., Mrs. Maria Kolb, Portland, Oregon and Mrs. Emma Vail, of California. Three brothers have preceeded her in death.
