Funeral Service for William H. Jenkins Held Wed., Sept 20
Funeral services for William H. Jenkins were held Wednesday, September 20 at the Patt funeral home in Manchester. Rev. Charles E. (unreadable), minister of the Methodist church in Manchester, preached the (unreadable) sermon. Music was furnished by Mrs. Arlie Hamlin, who sang "The Sweet Bye and Bye". Pallbearers were Otto Berens, Ross (torn paper), C. A. Hesner, Frank Wiley, ??Carroll and Fred Beddow. Interment was in the Yankee Settlement Cemtery at Edgewood.William H. Jenkins was born at ??, Iowa, January 23, 1869,?? as a boy he accompanied his parents to a farm near Edgewood, where he grew ro manhood, and where he was united in marriage with Miss Cecile Lockland in 1889. To this union nine children were born, Ray V. of Stockton, Calif., Roy A. of Cedar Rapids, Ora of Vallejo, Calif., Mrs. Ossie Jewell of Scales Mound, Ill., Mrs. Alta Harbaugh of Coggo?, Everett of Oakdale, Iowa and "sie, Eva and Otto who dies in infancy. On January 12, 1925, he was united in marriage with Mrs. Elsie Moser, and to them one son, William Junior Jenkins was born. The son is in the United States submarine service in the South Pacific.
He passed away of heart ailment on September 18, 1944. He also leaves to mourn his loss four step-daughters, Mrs. Merrill Matthews, Oneida, Mrs. Henry Lauer, Hardington, Neb., Mrs. J. P. Elliott, Cedar Rapids; also 11 grandsons, seven step-grandsons, and two great grandson.
Mr. Jenkins and his wife have been the caretakers of the Manchester tourist park during the past four years. Before coming to Manchester, Mr. Jenkins operated a farm south of Edgewood. His sudden death b rings profound sorrow to the widow and the children, who mourn his passing.
