THOMAS H. WILEY LAID TO REST IN GREELEY CEMETERY

Requiem mass was conducted at Saint Joseph's Church in Greeley Monday morning at 9:30 o'clock for Thomas Wiley, whose death occured at the home of his son, Martin Wiley near Littleport Saturday morning after a lingering illness of several months. The service was in charge of Rev. J. P. Hamill of St. Mark's and St. Joseph's parishes. Burial was made in the St. Joseph's Cemetery in Greeley.

Thomas Wiley was born in La Salle County, Illinois on December 25, 1853 and died at the age of 86 years, six months and 25 days. His parents were Patrick Wiley and Anna Cooley Wiley. When a child of nine years the family moved to Iowa and settled on Bear Creek. In the rural school near the farm home the children were educated. They helped their parents clear the timber from their farm and developed the same dependable qualities of good citizenship which their pioneering parents had so highly developed in themselves.

About 59 years ago Thomas Wiley was united in marriage to Miss Kathleen Kane and to their union two children were born. Henry Wiley of Manchester still survives; Mrs. Mary Moran died in 1911. The family moved to Denver, Colo., after a time for Mrs. Wiley's health but she died leaving two children, little more than babies. Mr. Wiley and the children came back to Iowa and settled near Wood where they lived for many years then moved to the farm between here and Greeley which was their home for many years. On May 27, 1890 Mr. Wiley married Miss Ellen McManus. To this union were born four sons and four daughters, all of whom survive. They are Sister Mary Bruno of Cedar Rapids, Leo Wiley of Forest City, Ill., Martin Wiley of Littleport, Mrs. Ernest Eble and Mrs. Dick Cahalan, both of Dearborn, Mich., Tom Wiley of Winona, Minn., Charles Wiley and Mrs. Ed Tinker of near Greeley. there are 22 grandchildren.
He is also survived by two brothers and three sisters, Frank Wiley of Edgewood, Michael Wiley of West Union, Mrs. Michael Lucey of Aurora, Mrs. Lizzie Ringer of Britton, South Dakota, and Mrs. Joseph Thurn of Manchester.
All of the nine living children came to attend the funeral services of their father.
