1873-1942

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR VERD COOLIDGE HELD HERE SATURDAY
Jonathan Verd Coolidge, son of Jonathan Coolidge and wife, Abagail Smith Coolidge, was born on February 12, 1873 in Lodomillo Township, Clayton County, Iowa, and departed this life on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1942 at the age of 69 years, seven months and four days.

In his childhood the family moved to Edgewood and with the exception of a little time spent in Hopkinton the home was in Edgewood until 1923.
On December 9, 1899, he was united in marriage to Miss Margaret J. Benson, and to their union one son, Don, was born. His death occured in 1930.

Mr. Coolidge was an active member of the business life of this community, first as operator of a barber shop, then in the mercantile business in which he was a partner with George Barr and later with E. J. Putz. Still later the Coolidges owned the hardware store. In 1923 the family moved to Minneapolis, Minn., where for several years he was employed at the Warner Hardware Co. They then purchased a grocery store. For the past 12 years Mr. Coolidge had been guard at the Institute of Arts in Minneapolis. In April failing health made it imperative that he give up his work.
In youth he had been baptized and received into the membership of the Methodist church. He was a member of Avalon Lodge No. 606 A. F. and A. M.
Surviving to mourn his death are his dearly loved wife, several nieces and nephews and many other more distant relatives and hosts of friends. His friends in this community and vicinity are only limited by thoses who knew him and his sterling character. The sympathies of these friends were extended to Mrs. Coolidge.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the Platt Funeral Chapel in charge of the Rev. Ernest L. True, pastor of the Baptist church at Jesup. Music for the service was by the male quartet, D. E. Rhines, C. J. Rulon, F. I. Smith and F. R. Minkler with Miss Jennie Forward as accompanist. Casket attendants were E. J. Putz, M. G. Perrinjaquet, Dr. F. H. Stainaker, C. J. Rulon, D. S. Glazier and F. H. Hatch. Burial was made in the Edgewood cemetery.
