Alexander, Iowa, April 12 - William H. Tinkey, age seventy-four, passed away Thursday, April 6th, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Halfwassen, in Alexander. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Community Methodist church, in Alexander, with the Green & Sietsema funeral hime of Hampton in charge. Rev. R.H. Jackson, pastor of the church officiated at the last rites.
Mr. Tinkey was born October 9, 1886, at Osterdock, Iowa, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Tinkey, where he lived until young manhood. He attended Iowa State College, at Ames, where he received his education in the dairy industry. He became the butter-maker at the Alexander creamery upon completion of his training. In 1918 he entered the U.S. Army and after the close of the war returned to Alexander to resume his work at the creamery. He held this position until the creamery closed in 1951, with the exception of three years in the early 20's when he farmed near Osterdock.
He became a member of the Methodist church, later becoming a member of the Alexander church in which he served in varous capacities. He was secretary of the church board until his illness forced him to retire. He was installed for a life term as honorary member of the board of trustees and also served as trustee of perpetual care of the Cemetery Association for a period of twenty-seven years. In 1943 he was selected as town clerk and held that position for seventeen years and prior to this served on the town council.
On February 26, 1919, he was united in marriage to Grace Pals, at Alexander. To this union six children were born, four daughters and two sons.
Mr. Tinkey is survived by his wife, his daughters, Mrs. Alvin Orpen, of Kensett, Mrs. Harold Bryan, of Plainfield, Mrs. John Halfwassen, of Alexander and Mrs. Marvin Jaacks, of Belmond, and one son, Delbert Tinkey of Clear Lake. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Anna White, of Elgin, and Mrs. Charles Troester, of Guttenberg.
He was preceded in death by a son, Loren Tinkey, two grandchildren, Craig and Arlette Halfwassen, two brothers, Raymond Tinkey and Walter Tinkey, and his parents.
Relatives and friends attended the funeral from Albert Lea, Minnesota, Clear Lake, Meservey, Latimer, Goldfield, Dows, Clarion, Plainfield, Hampton, Mason City, Kensett, Belmond, Rowan, Guttenberg, Colesburg, Elgin, Des Moines and Alexander.
