ALVIN KRUEGER

Funeral services for Alvin Krueger of Farmersburg, 74, were held Friday afternoon, Jan. 7, at the Schultz Funeral home in Monona with Rev. R. Steege officiating.

Burial was in St. John Lutheran cemetery at Luana.

Mr. Krueger died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 1966, the result of a self inflicted gunshot wound. He had been in failing health for the last several months, and had been released from the hospital shortly before Christmas.

He was born a son of Henry and Caroline, nee Kregel, Krueger in Garnavillo township, Nov. 12, 1891. He was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran church in Garnavillo, Dec. 20, 1891, by Rev. Sommerland. Several years later he moved with his parents to the Luana community. Here he attended the Luana Public schools and also the religious school at St. John Lutheran church in Luana. He was confirmed at the Luana church by Rev. William Paulson, April 16, 1905.

The early years of his life were spent in the home of his parents. Later he started farming with his brother, Rudolph. After the latter married, he continued to live and farm with Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Krueger. For two years, they farmed in the Gunder community, 22 years in the Pleasant Ridge community, three years in Giard community, and 14 years east of Monona. They moved to their present home in 1957. Since moving to their present home, the deceased helped Oscar Torkelson at the saw mill.

In 1918 the deceased answered the call of his country and served as a soldier in the United States Army.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Arthur and Rudolph.

Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Reinhold (Melinda) of Postville and Mrs. Eldo (Fredena) Schrader of Monona, and two brothers, Paul of Luana, and Edgar of Farmersburg.

Pallbearers were: Oscar Torkelson, Ivan Ihlenfeldt, Bruce Little, Elmer Fuelling, and Fred Schrader.

Military rites at the grave were conducted by the Farmersburg - St. Olaf American Legion.

Postville Herald newspaper clipping from my mother's obituary collection. This clipping has a lot of minor typing errors in it and I believe Mrs. Reinhold (Melinda) should be Mrs. Reinhold (Melinda) Voelz because the same name appears in Alvin's brother Paul's obituary.
