McGregor Youth Killed In Trempeleau County
Donald Harry, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Harry of rural McGregor, and Phillip Hoover, 17, of Trempeleau County were killed in Trempeleau County near Whitehall, Wis., early Wednesday morning.
According to information received from the Trempeleau County sheriff, the two boys were killed when they were run over by an oil transport truck at about 3:00 a.m. The driver told authorities he saw what looked like two gunny sacks in the road, he swerved to miss them but the rear wheels passed over the heads of both youths, who were laying side by side on the highway with their heads toward the ceneter of the road. There were no other marks on the boys except those caused by the truck wheel.
Trempeleau County Officials are investigating to determine why the youths were laying (apparently asleep) in the highway. It is believed the two youths were hitchhiking to McGregor where they were expected to arrive today.
The Harry boy is survived by his parents; five sisters; Mrs. Roy (Shirley) Thornton, Rossville, Iowa; Judy, Joyce, Goldie and Patsy, all of McGregor; and one brother, Franklin Jr., at home.
