MRS. H. M. BARR DIES AT AGE OF 80; FUNERAL WEDNESDAY

Sadie M. Kratzer, daughter of Samuel and Melinda Kratzer, was born on April 25, 1859 in Winnebago County, Illinois, near the present city of Rockford. She passed away on January 29, 1940 at the family home one and a half miles south of Edgewood, having reached the age of 80 years, nine months and four days.

At the age of nine years she came to Iowa with her parents who settled at Central City. It was here that the early years of her life were spent. She attended the public school at Central City and also became affiliated with the religious life of the community.

On September 30, 1890 at the home of her parents in Central City she was united in marraige to Henry M. Barr of Edgewood. Following their marriage they moved to their present farm home near Edgewood where the entire period of their married life was happily spent. No children were born to this union but she extended her love to include her husband's two sons who had been bereft of their own mother. Mrs. Barr was always interested in the welfare if her home and her family and besides being a faithful and loving wife, she found time to participate in the character building activities of this community.She was a charter member of the Congregational Church and was a faithful member of its several organizations during her many years of affiliation. she was also a member of the local unit of the Women's Christian Temperance Union.

Mrs. Barr was the last member of a family of ten brothers and sisters. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband and his two sons, Clifford and Jay Barr, living in California and several nieces and nephews, besides numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the Congregational Church at 2:00 o'clock in charge of the pastor, the Rev. Austin Eberle assisted by Rev. W. L. Feller. Music for the service was sung by D. E. Rhines and C. J. Rulon with Miss Margaret Kirk as accompanist. Burial was in the Edgewood Cemetery.
