Blanchard, Nellie (James) 1866-1946

I am not related and have no further information, just sharing articles found in an old scrapbook that belonged to Mrs. Clara (Jones) McCartney.

MRS. BLANCHARD FUNERAL RITES HELD THURSDAY, SEPT. 12
Funeral services were held September 12th for Nellie Blanchard, 80, at the Rhines funeral home at Edgewood, with the burial at the Edgewood cemetery. Rev. Shaw preached the funeral sermon. Music was furnished by Mrs. Ray Minkler and Mrs. George Perrinjaquet who sang "In the Garden" and "Beyond the Sunrise." They were accompanied by Mrs. Ben Shaw. the pallbearers were Lee Culbertson, Robert Arthur, Kenneth Arthur, Everett Hansel, Francis Arthur and Earl Hansel.

Nellie M. Blanchard, the daughter of T. J. and Rhoda Steele James, pioneers of the Little York community, was born on the parents farm near Edgewood, July 15, 1866 and in 1888 was married to the late L. B. Blanchard. the couple spent their entire married life in Edgewood where Mr. Blanchard engaged in the banking business over a period of years. Mr. Blanchard died July 15, 1941. No children were born of this marriage and Mrs. Blanchard is the last of her immediate family. Her closest surviving relatives are Mrs. Eva Harris of Manchester and Roy Culbertson of Edgewood, who are cousins.

Mrs. Blanchard was operated upon in a Cedar Rapids hospital last July after a long illness. She never regained her strenghth enough to leave the bed after her retuen to her home. She died at her home September 10, 1946. Mrs. Nellie Arthur had been her companion in her home the last years of her life.
