Mart Derr

Mart M. Derr, 74, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Derr was born at Savannah, Mo., January 18, 1872. One of a family of 11 children. Mart farmed most of his life and many years near Edgewood. About five years ago Mr. Derr went to Mason City to live with his sister, Mrs. Lottie DeCou. She has been his companion and done all that loving hands could do. Following a lingering illness Mart died at a Mason City hospital March 30, 1946. He lived a good Christian life all of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Derr and one brother, also John Derr.

Mart is survived by six brothers and three sister: Frank W. of Oshkosh, Wis., James of Guttenberg, Charles of Edgewood, Bert of Dundee, Thomas of Manchester and Alfred of Waterloo; Mrs. Lottie DeCou of Mason City, Mrs. Kate Schieas of Dundee and Mrs. Susan Robinson of Waterloo.

Funeral services for Mr. Derr were held at the Rhines funeral home at 3:30 Tuesday, April 2nd. The funeral services were in charge of Rev. Wilbur F. Dierking of the First Presbyterian church of Mason City. Pall-bearers were Bert Burgin, Paul Berens, Roy Culbertson, Frank Lucy, John Thurn and John Reedy. Music was furnished by Claude Rulon and Mrs. Clark Tyrrill, who sang, "In The Garden," and "It is Well With My Soul,: accompanied by Mrs. Lee Way. The interment was in the Edgewood cemetery.

Out of town relatives attending the funeral included Frank Derr and daughter, Millie of Oshkosh, Wis., Mrs. Sadie Clute, Mrs Susan Robinson and Alfred Derr of Waterloo, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Phelps of Colesburg, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Schiess and Mrs. Sammy Schiess and *** Derr of Dundee, and James Derr of Guttenberg.
