HARLEY PALAS

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 29, 1985 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, with Pastor Bob Edwards officiating. Pallbearers were John Palas, Kent Powell, Eugene Miller, Loren Plozel, Roger Honn, and Richard Palas. Honorary pallbearers were Hale Corlett, Fred Nuehring, Kenneth Radloff, Vernon Bugel, Charles McNichols, Kenneth Kuehl, and Gerald Jennings. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery. Schultz's Funeral Home was in charge of services.

Harley John Palas was born January 29, 1906 at rural St. Olaf, Iowa, the son of Louis and Marie (Lenth) Palas. He was baptized on March 13, 1906 and confirmed November 20, 1932 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Farmersburg by Rev. H. M. Adix. He was a graduate of the Elkader High School. On September 3, 1930 he was united in marriage to Ethel Honn at the Little Brown Church. To this union one son was born. He farmed for 10 years and was an I. H. Implement dealer for 24 years. During these years he also served as mayor of Farmersburg and also held the position of City Clerk at one time. He was state Representative for two sessions and served on the church council. He died Wednesday, June 26, 1985 at Central Community Hospital, Elkader, after a short illness.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother Luver.

Surviving are his wife Ethel; his son Valdean and daughter-in-law Alice of Dubuque; his sister Iva Oelke of Monona, and his brother Sylvan of Berwin, Ill.

Submitter's note: Other information posted to this obituary, which is posted on another site, says Harley Palas' father, Louis Palas (born July 25, 1875 and died July 1, 1954) is the son of Johann Palas and Caroline Voss. Louis Palas' children were Luver, Harley J., Iva C., Dorothea, and Sylvan L. Louis was a well known sheriff in Clayton County. I am not related and have no further information.
