Life Sketch of Sarah Groth
Sarah Groth, daughter of Johannas and Guri Groth, was born near Elgin, July 4, 1863, on the place now occupied by Gus Gilbertson. She was baptized and confirmed in the East Clermont Lutheran church. She lived on the home farm until 18 years ago when she moved to Clermont.
For a number of years she had been in poor health and since last fall had been gradually getting weaker. On Monday, June 12, she was taken to the West Union hospital where on Thursday morning, June 15, at 3 o'clock, she quietly passed to her heavenly home at the age of eighty years, eleven months and eleven days.
Her parents, four brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her passing one sister, Sophia, of Clermont, three brothers, Halsten and Martin, of Elgin, and Louis of Washington, also four nieces, three nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the West Clermont Lutheran church on Saturday afternoon, June 17, at 2 o'clock. Rev. A.O. Nesset officiated and special songs were furnished by Marilyn Stolle and Iva Peterson. The casket bearers were Edwin Olson of Waterloo, Selmer Groth and Elmer Olson of near Gunder, Harry Stolle of West Union, L.M. Hovland and Harry Gunderson. Interment was in the cemetery at the East Clermont church.
