Arnold D. Roggman, 99, of Garnavillo died March 7, 2003 at the Great River Care Center in McGregor.

Services were conducted by Rev. Tom Miller at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 10, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Garnavillo. Casket bearers were Bernell Borcherding, Craig Tuecke, Jack Eulberg, Bob Bente, Lynn Ihde, Paul Wille and Ray Koth.

Burial was in Garnavillo Community Cemetery.

Arrangements were by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Garnavillo.

Arnold Dietrich was born the son of Charles and Anna (Kregel) Roggman on Friday, May 1, 1903 in Elkader. He was baptized on Nov. 8, 1903 and in 1917 he made Affirmation of his Baptism at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Garnavillo.

As a boy, Arnold worked on several farms and then worked in the family timber. He graduated from the Garnavillo High School in 1920 and attended Bayless Business College in Dubuque for a short time. After his schooling, he was employed as Deputy Treasurer of Clayton County, teller at the Garnavillo Savings Bank, sold insurance for Bankers Life Insurance Company, and in partnership with his brother-in-law built and operated the Garnavillo Hardware Store. Arnold also served as secretary of the Clayton County Fair Board for many years.

On Aug. 2, 1927 Arnold was united in marriage with Laverne Elizabeth Meyer at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Garnavillo. Together they worked on many projects and enjoyed trips to the Minnesota/Canadian borders and Mexico. Laverne died April 27, 1998.

Arnold was a lifelong member of St. Paul Church, serving on church council and many other church committees and projects. His many achievements include photography with national awards, archaeology and genealogy, founder and organizer of the Garnavillo Museum, co-author of "Garnavillo History, Gem of the Prairie" published in 1988 and recorded the burials in the "Old" City Cemetery.

Survivors include his niece, Sandra Fiete of Sedona, Ariz., his nephew, James (Dorothy) Fiete of Brentwood, Mo.; two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Meyer of Garnavillo and Margaret Louise Meyer of Guttenberg, and many friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife; a sister, Bernadine Fiete; two brothers, Fletcher and Robert, and two brothers-in-law, Carleton Fiete and Louis C. Meyer.
