Alvin Vincent Franz, 75, of McGregor, Iowa died Monday, January 8, 1996 at his home after a long illness. He was born June 5, 1920 at McGregor, Iowa to Albert and Marie Larson Franz. He married Charlotte Davies September 28, 1943 at Rapid City, South Dakota.
He served in the US Air Force during World War II. After his discharge he returned to McGregor working as a rural mail carrier from August 16, 1948 until his retirement December 17, 1985.
He was active in the First Lutheran Church, in McGregor, with the McGregor American Legion, the Clayton County rural mail carriers, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also maintained and assisted in cemetery maintenance. He enjoyed fishing year around.
Surviving are his wife Charlotte of McGregor; two sons Allyn & Judy Franz of Iowa City, Thomas & Gerri Franz of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents, and a sister Edna Franz.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Lutheran Church in rural McGregor with interment in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Military honors by the McGregor American Legion. Memorials may be given to the First Lutheran Church or the Mar-Mac Rescue Squad.
