Walters, Wayne Marvin 1912 - 1989

Wayne Marvin, son of Marvin and Mae (Smith) Walters, was born May 19, 1912, near Colesburg, IA. He was raised and educated in the area, attending Colesburg schools.

He was united in marriage Feb. 1, 1939, to Bernice Schulte at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Garnavillo. Two children were born to this union. Through the years Wayne farmed in the McGregor, Colesburg and St. Olaf areas.

He was always active in community affairs, serving on the school board, fair board, church, and as 4-H leader. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

For the past year, Wayne resided in the Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien, WI, where he died Wednesday morning, June 14, 1989. He was 77 years of age.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Learn.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice; a son, Forrest and his wife Kay of McGregor; a daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Fara Wayne) Tayek of Monona; four grand-children, Marvin and Michelle Walters, and Joe and Jason Wayne Tayek; a great- grandchild, Bridget Marovets; five brothers, Dale, Ted and Kenneth of Guttenberg, Leyton of Garber and Gerald of Colesburg; four sisters, Mrs.Liam (Bernice) Kubicek of StrawberryPoint, Mrs. Donald (Freda) Swanson of Michigan, Mrs. Marjorie Peters of Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Wallace (April) Finnegan of Guttenberg.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 16, 1:30 p.m., at St.Paul's Lutheran Church in Garnavillo with The Rev. L.C. Urlaub officiating. The organist was Sharon Stade, and Jeff West was the soloist.

Honorary bearers were Clark Costigan, Edward Miller, Albert Erickson, Reuben Rayment, Peter Berns and Valmah Siebrecht. Casketbearers were Marvin Walters, Joe Tayek, Bob Scherf, Randy Lenth, Jason Wayne Tayek and Lee Erickson.

Interment was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, McGregor. Arrangements were by Leonard-Witt Funeral Home, Elkader.
