Funeral services for Ronald Carlton Schlitter of Sullivan, IL, formerly of Monona, IA, who passed away Saturday, March 7, 1987, at St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur, IL, were held Wednesday, March 11, at 1:30 p.m. at Reeds Funeral Home in Sullivan, IL, with Rev. Paul McGhghy of Faith Lutheran Church officiating. Tammy Schlitter was the soloist. Burial was in Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan, with military services.

Pallbearers were Paul Bearerc, David Mauleg, Russ Laird, Elmer (Bud) Gerhardt, Ronald Engelhardt, James Walsh and Paul Pierce. Reeds Funeral Home was in charge.

Ronald was born March 11, 1936, in Allamakee County, IA, the son of Carlton and Mardella (Kruse) Schlitter. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona. He attended Figgie School and graduated from MFL high school in 1954. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in March of 1955, going to Manattan Station in New York, then to Biloxi, MS, one year in Iceland and two years at Ellsworth Air Base in Rapid City, SD. He received an honorable discharge.

On Dec. 12, 1958, Ronald was united in marriage to Sharen Engelhardt at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona. To this union one daughter and two sons were born. He worked at several airports, Midway in Chicago, Kansas City, MO, Rockford, IL, Vandalia, IL, and 14 years for the F.A.A. as an air traffic controller at Decatur,IL. Ronald was a veteran of the Air Force.

Survivors include his wife, Sharen; one daughter, Brenda and her husband Kurt Pierce of Sulivan, IL; two sons, Sgt. Dennis and his wife Susan of Bitburg, Germany, and Randy at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carlton Schlitter of Monona; one sister, Beverly and her husband, James Walsh of Waukon; two brothers, Eugene and his wife Anita of Monona and Dr. Duane and his wife Judy of Pittsburg, PA; three grand-daughters, Paula and Kelly Pierce and Katherine Schlitter; his grand-mother, Bertha Kruse of Monona; uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
