Funeral services for Lester Schlitter were held Thursday, May 23, 1985 at 2:00 p.m., Garden city United Methodist (brick) Church, Monona, with Rev. Marion Bloodworth officiating. Pallbearers were Larry Jones, Lonnie Schlitter, Brad Bissell, Steve Schlitter, Dale Bugenhagen, Stan Schlitter, Kenneth Jones. Richard Jones, Danny Schlitter, Steve Miller, Darryl Schlitter. Rodney Schlitter, and Brian Bugenhagen. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery. Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona was in charge of service.

Lester Emmett Schlitter was born March 6, 1911 in Allamakee County, Iowa. He was the son of William and Emma (Jarms) Schlitter, his mother died when he was two weeks old. He received his education in the Roule (Figgie) School, Linton Township. For a short time he lived at Ion. On December 2, 1930 he was united in marriage to DeLillia Bollman. To this union five children were born. Lester farmed all of his life, living on the same farm for 39 years, after which he retired and moved to a smaller farm next door. He enjoyed sitting in his chair outside under the trees and watching the great outdoors and seeing his passing neighbors. When he became ill he spent sometime with his family and on February 16, 1983 he became a resident of the Great River Care Center in McGregor where he enjoyed reading his Bible and going to church services. He died Monday, May 20, 1985 at the Care Center.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife DeLillia on April 19, 1982; 3 brothers, Clarence, Fred, Floyd; 2 half brothers, Alfred and Dayton.

Surviving are his 3 sons, Arno of Luana, Leo of Bagley, Wisc., James of Postville; 2 daughters, Mrs. Earl (Ruth) Jones, Harpers Ferry, Violet Bugenhagen, Monona; 16 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one brother, Herb of Monona; 1 sister Elsie Kutzbach, Farmersburg; 3-1/2 brothers, Howard, Waterville, Harvey, West Union, Robert, Allison, Iowa; 4-1/2 sisters, Verna Chalder and Alice Palas, both of Dubuque, Adaline McFarline, Madison, Wisc., Florence Plozel, McGregor.
