A well-known Giard resident who was a longtime employee of the McGregor bank, Mrs. William (Ruth) Meyer, died Friday, Nov. 21, in Lutheran Hospital at LaCrosse, Wis. following an illness of about one year. She was 58 years old. Funeral services were conducted Monday at 11 a. m. in the Giard United Methodist Church by the Rev. Carroll Brown, pastor of the Monona and Giard UM churches. Burial was in Giard Cemetery. Pallbearers were Roger Bernhard, Tom Schmidt, Jim Schmidt, Dick Wold, Mark Wold, Stanley Bernhard, Steven Bernhard and Gene Klinge. Shultz Funeral Home, Monona was in charge of arrangements.

The former Ruth Marjorie Bernhard was born July 28, 1922, in Giard Township, Clayton County, the daughter of Clarence G. and Emma (Hardke) Bernhard. She was educated at Cooper Valley School and was graduated from Monona High School in 1940.

She and William G. Meyer were united in marriage April 26, 1943, in the Monona United Methodist Church. Mrs. Meyer was an assistant cashier and a teller for First State Savings Bank of McGregor
and Marquette for 21 years.

She was an active member of the Giard church and its Women's Society for Christian Service. She also belonged to the Giard Work and Play Club.

Surviving are her husband; two sons, William G. of Mount Vernon and Robert of Strawberry Point; two granddaughters two brothers, Howard Bernhard of Monona and Clarence Bernhard of Garnavillo; and five sisters, Mrs. Kermit (Ethel) Klinge and Mrs. Burdette (Helen) Wold, both of Monona, Mrs. George (Viola) Alderson of Wadena, and Mrs. William (Georgene) Schmidt and Ms. Beverly Reque, both of LaCrosse.

Mrs. Meyer was preceded in death by two brothers, Clifton and Gordon Bernhard, and her parents.
