Funeral services were held for Alfred Ferguson, 65, last Thursday afternoon from the farm home to the Methodist church at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Roscoe C. Jerrell officiating.
Burial was in the City cemetery with the rites of the I.O.O.F.given at the church. Mr.Ferguson died Tuesday morning Nov. 27, at St. Joseph`s sanitarium in Dubuque, following an eye operation, Nov 14. He retired from the farm six years ago because of ill health.
He was born July 25 1880, on a farm a mile north of Monona, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Ferguson. He was the fifth son of a family of eleven children of whom eight boys grew to manhood. When he was 15 years old, his father died and he became a staunch support to his mother on the farm. Upon the death of his mother, he purchased the farm, which was originally homesteaded from the government by his grandfather.
He was married to Miss Elsie A. Dull, June 23, 1909, by the Rev. R. L. Van Nice of Waukon, the couple going to live on the farm.
In addition to his widow, he is survived by four daughter; Mrs. Bruce (Helen) Tapper of San Bernadine, Calif., who was recently here for a visit; Mrs. F. C. (Evelyn) Thiele of Elkader, Mrs. V. L. (Beatrice) Wondra of Chicago. Ill., and Mrs. Bob (Shirley) Jacobson of Monona seven brothers, Duran of Lebanon, Ore. Bert of Elkader, Robert of Marquette, Herbert of Olin, Ray, Frank, and Elgie of Monona; Five grandchildren, Gary and Barton Thiele, Jimmie Jacobson, Robert Bruce Tapper and Alan Wondra
