Thomas Papacek was born in Steponowic, Bohemia December 19, 1839 and died at his home in Monona, July 10, 1913, aged 74 years, 5 months and 21 days.
Mr. Papacek was united in marriage to Miss Mary Lenz, in Rudolphstadt, Germany in 1870. They came to America two years later, settling in Chicago where he lived until 1877, when he came to Clayton County settling on a farm at Beulah where he made his home until three years ago, when he purchased a home and moved to Monona. He is survived by a wife and seven children, Mrs. Anna Havlicek of Pleasant Ridge, Joseph of Denver, Col. Jacob of Warwick, N.D., Mrs. Matilda Williamson, of Monona, Mrs. Retus Ellenbolt, of Pleasant Ridge and Mrs. Alvena Downing of Clayton, Iowa. Two children died while they resided in Chicago. Funeral services were held at St. Patrick's Church in Monona Saturday afternoon, July 12, Rev. Father Hogan officiating. Burial in Bohemian Cemetery at Beulah. He was a man well known in this community and highly respected by all. His sickness was of about four weeks duration, brought on by a hemorrhage of the stomach. The very large attendance at the funeral testified to the friendship and respect in which he was held by his neighbors and friends.Copied from Monona Leader Microfilm by Cheryl Drahn Smola
