Catherine Bracker was born at Canton Bern, Switzerland, July 20, 1839, and died at her home east of Elgin, September 8, 1909, and was 70 years, 1 month and 18 days old. She emigrated to this county in 1854, settling first in Ohio and coming to Iowa in the spring of 1855 accompanied by six brothers and one sister, four brothers have passed on, one, Josse, a former resident of Elgin died at Lamars, Mo., one week previous to her death.
She was married twice, her second marriage was to Rev. Jacob Ruegg in 1889 and she has been a widow since his death in April 19, 1904. She was a woman who was loved by all and who cared for her home and tenderly reared her step-children until they made homes for themselves and for the past few years of her life she lived alone.
She is survived by two brothers, John and Samuel and one sister, Mrs. Anna Freiden, who reside near this city, and many relatives and friends. Funeral services were held from the Apostolic church, of which denomination she had been a faithful member for over forty years, Friday September 10, conducted by Rev. Schupbach and the remains were laid to rest in the church cemetery.
