Funeral services for Alvin Henry Gilster, age 88, were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 7, at Garden City United Methodist Church in Monona, Iowa with Dr. Gary Dobbins officiating. Burial was in the Monona Cemetery with arrangements by Schultz Funeral Home of Monona, Iowa.

Alvin Henry Gilster, son of William and Ida (Mielke) Gilster, was born April 25, 1909 in rural Monona, Iowa. He received his education at Sunnyside School #8. On December 16, 1932 Alvin married Thalia Campbell in Galena, Illinois. Alvin was self-employed as a farmer, retiring approximately 30 years ago. During the war years, he worked at the White Springs in McGregor, Iowa.

Alvin Henry Gilster died Wednesday February 4, 1998 at Guttenberg Care Center in Guttenberg, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, two brothers, and a grandson.

Alvin is survived by his wife, Thalia of McGregor, Iowa; a son Elvie Gilster of McGregor, Iowa; 3 grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Dallman of Mauston, Wisconsin.
