Funeral services for Vella Decker Harberts, of Guttenberg, Iowa, formerly of Garnavillo, Iowa, were held Tuesday, at 11:30 a.m. on August 9, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Garnavillo, Iowa.

Vella, daughter of Orlo and Almeda (Chapin) Boardman, was born June 9, 1912 at Waukon Junction, in Allamakee County, Iowa. Vella spent her early years in Waukon Junction and graduated from the Waterville High School. She received 2 years of education from the Junior College in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. Vella was married to Milo Decker and together they were blessed with seven children. Vella was a full time homemaker but for many years she worked for the Hinson Company in Waterloo, Iowa manufacturing tractor cabs for John Deere. Many years after Milo passed away, Vella married Dick Harberts and she gained two step-sons.

Vella Harberts died Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at the Guttenberg Care Center in Guttenberg, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, Milo Decker and Dick Harberts; 3 sons, Leslie Decker, John Decker, and Milo Decker; one grandchild, one son-in-law, Dean Priem, one daughter-in-law, Liz Decker, and one sister, Lucille McCormick.

Vella is survived by her 4 children, Fay (Richard) Thein, Gloria Priem, Judy Waddell, and Charles Decker; 2 step-sons, Gaylen Harberts and Arlyn Harberts; 25 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Karla Decker; one brother, John Boardman; and nieces and nephews.
