Elkader Register, Thur., 18 Oct. 1900. North Buena Vista column.

Last Friday morning while Andrew Wick and son Jake were fishing from a boat, the boat sank. Jake Wick escaped death by swimming to the shore but his father, a man of about __ years of age and unable to swim, was drowned. A large number of people have been dragging the river for the remains but as yet they have not been found.

No doubt a great many in this vicinity remember the drowning of Andrew Wick near Buena Vista on Oct. 12. He was an old man, being 72 years of age and was fishing in company with his son, and while drawing the seine into the boat it was swamped and the occupants thrown into the river. The son managed to reach shore in safety but the old man went down and his body was not found until last Friday.

Vene Ary, a son-in-law of Wick, while rowing on the river Friday, noticed the body of a man in the bushes and upon investigation proved to be the remains of his father-in-law.

The body had been in water for eight months and despite this fact was in a very good state of preservation externally, although internally it was quite badly decomposed. The features were almost natural and easy recognizable, and with the exception of the hair missing on the head, were just as as the dead man looked prior to the tragedy.

The remains were taken to Buena Vista where they were prepared for burial. - Cassville Record
