Funeral services for John Leonard Froning, age 87, were held Tuesday, May 24, 1994 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa. Rev. Terry Hudson officiated. Casket bearers were Ray DeSotel, Gene Trappe, Lawrence Lotza, Ben Marovets, Justus Kammerer, and Jerry Tayek. Burial was in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Monona, Iowa. Schultz Funeral Home of Monona, Iowa was in charge of services.

John Leonard Froning, twin son of August and Lizzie (Letzring) Froning, was born October 24, 1906 at Sheffield, Iowa. His twin sister was Christine Froning. He was baptized and confirmed June 10, 1934 at Oelwein Lutheran Church by Rev. Voelker. He received his education at Sheffield, Iowa and Maynard, Iowa schools. On January 23, 1928 John was united in marriage to Leona Sass in Oelwein, Iowa with Rev. Hillis officiating. To this union two daughters were born. The couple farmed near Oelwein, Iowa until 1944. They moved to a farm east of Monona, Iowa where they farmed until 1969 when they moved into Monona.

John Leonard Froning died May 21, 1994 at Central Community Hospital in Elkader, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Leona who died September 23, 1991; a son-in-law, Richard Cooper; his twin sister, Christine Oldag; and 4 brothers, Clarence Froning, Ernest Froning, Leonard Froning, and Willard Froning.

John is survived by his 2 daughters, LaVon (Harland) Kottman of Monona, Iowa, and Donna Cooper of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
