Funeral services for Richard Joseph Fassbinder, age 84, of Elkader, Iowa were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 27 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elkader, Iowa. Reverend Paul R. Peters officiated with burial in the church cemetery. Leonard Funeral Home of Elkader was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Robert "Bob" Fassbinder, Dave Fassbinder, William "Bill" Fassbinder, Gus Miller, George Miller, and Pete Berns.

Richard Joseph Fassbinder, son of Werner and Catherine (DeSotel) Fassbinder, was born February 10, 1917 in rural Guttenberg, Iowa. He graduated from Campion High School in Prairie du Chien,m Wisconsin. He was united in marriage to Jeanne Frances Baldwin on June 14, 1938 in Elkader, Iowa. Richard operated a Massey-Harris Implement dealership in Elkader for many years. He later drove a Standard Oil tank and drove school bus for a number of years. He has been a longtime member of the Elkader Lions Club and St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Richard Joseph Fassbinder died Thursday, August 23, 2001 at Central Community Hospital in Elkader, Iowa following a long illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Kenneth Fassbinder and a sister Donna.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne; his son, John (Marilyn) Fassbinder of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin; 2 grandchildren, Brent (Nancy) Fassbinder, and Donna Fassbinder, all of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, 3 great-grandchildren, Emily Fassbinder, Erica Fassbinder, and Elise Fassbinder; and a brother, Gerald "Jerry" (Jean) Fassbinder of Postville, Iowa.
