Rites Held for Mrs. Fred Brandt

Mrs. Fred H. Brandt, nee Wilhelmina (Minnie) Meyer, was born February 19th, 1873 in Farmersburg township, the daughter of Wilhelm and Louise Meyer. She was baptized in the Lutheran Church at Garnavillo at an early age. She was confirmed in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Postville on April 3, 1887.

She was married to Fred H. Brandt on March 1, 1892. To this union were born eight children, Leora, Harlan, Ewald, Roland, Clara, Delia, and two children who died in infancy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two children in infancy, and four brothers; Henry, Charlie, and Arthur of Postville, and Will of Castalia.

She is survived by three dauthers, Leora (Ed) Plaht of Postville, Clara (Earl) Haefner of Oak Park, Illinois, and Delia (Irvin) Meyer of McGregor; three sons, Harlan and Ewald of Postville and Roland of Decorah; three sisters, Lena (John) Weihe of Postville, Anna (Fred) Kuhse of Postville, and Bertha (Carl) Schroeder of Postville; 14 grandchilren; 12 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and
friends.

Mrs. Brandt was taken to the Decorah Hospital on January 4, 1959 as a result of a broken hip suffered on that day. She passed away at the Decorah Hospital on February 1, 1959 at the age of 85 years, 11 months, and 13 days.

She was an honor roll member of the United Lutheran Church Women of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church and a confirmed member of the Church for over 70 years, having lived most of her life in the Postville community.

Funeral services were conducted in the Church on February 4 at 2:00 with the pastor Rev. Charles E. Witt officiating. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery. (Section B)
