Fred H. Brandt,
Prominent Farm Owner,
PassesAt six-thirty o'clock on Saturday evening, January 5th, 1929, following an attack of influenza, Fred Brandt, a well known and highly respected resident of Grand Meadow Township, Clayton county, entered into eternal rest at the age of 62 years, two months, and 25 days.
Frederick (Friedrich?) Henry Diedrich Brandt was born in Husum, Province of Hanover, Germany, October 11, 1866, where he was baptized and confirmed in the German Lutheran faith.
In April 1883 he came to America and to this locality where for a number of years he found employment on various farms in Grand Meadow township. In 1892 he purchased a farm in Grand Meadow township that has been his home continuously since. The same year he was united in marriage with Wilhelmine (Minnie) Louisa Meyer and on their farm they lived, loved, labored and prospered, builded themselves a comfortable home and reared their fine family. Their union was blessed with eight children, two of whom died in infancy.
Those who remain to mourn his loss are his wife and six children; Roland of Decorah, Mrs. Edwin Plaht of near Postville, Mrs. Earl Haefner of Traer, Mrs. Irvin Meyer of near McGregor, Harlan and Ewald still at home. Also a brother in Germany. Besides these are three little grandsons, many other relatives and friends.
Fred Brandt was a man known to all as an honest and upright man in all his dealings, a loyal and industrious citizen, an indulgent and devoted husband and father. He was a splendid type of christian gentleman, who for thirty-nine years was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church, and a generous contributor of his time and his means to its support and also served with ability as a member of the official board.
The funeral was held from St. Paul's church at one-thirty on Tuesday afternoon. Rev. E.T. Finck officiating, and the large congregation of sympathizing friends in attendance, as well as the numerous beautiful floral offerings fully attested the high and honored place he held in this community. Interment in Postville cemetery. (section B)
