Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Marie R. Baade, longtime Monona, Iowa resident, were held Tuesday, December 26 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa. Pastor Harold O. Ward officiated. Burial was held in the Monona City Cemetery in Monona. Schultz Funeral Home of Monona was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Ronald O. Mueller, Tony Mueller, Gary Hoth, Michael Walz, Jerry Knockel, and Steve Baade. Honorary pallbearers were Edward Hupfer, LeRoy Hoth, Ronnie Blumhagen, and Scott Goins
Marie Rosella, daughter of Edward and Clara (Schmitt) Hupfer, was born December 10, 1901 in Monona Township, Clayton County, Iowa. She received her education in the Aulerich Country School. On January 26, 1921 she was united in marriage with George John Baade in Monona, Iowa. They farmed in Monona Township until retiring in 1945 but continued to live on the farm. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and Peace Circle, Homemaker's Card Club, and a charter member of Leslie H. Smith Post #519 American Legion Auxiliary.
Marie died Saturday, December 23, 1989 at the Prairie Living Center in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin where she resided for the past three years. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, George who died January 27, 1971; and two brothers, Herbert Hupfer and Raymond Hupfer.
Surviving are two sons, Eugene (Marilyn) Baade of McGregor, Iowa and Douglas (Julie) Baade of Monona, Iowa; 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; a brother Vern Hupfer of Monona, Iowa and a sister, Mabel Franck of Memphis, Tennessee.
