A mass of Christian Burial for Leonard A. Schissel of Monona, Iowa was celebrated Saturday, March 31 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Monona, Iowa with Father John Moran officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Knights of Columbus Honor Guard. Schultz Funeral Home of Monona was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Irvin Huinker, Dennis Huinker, Gerald McEnaney, Kenneth Schissel, Elias Zweibohmer, and Victor Luzum.

Leonard A. Schissel, son of Joseph and Mary (Stepen) Schissel, was born January 20, 1900 in Fort Atkinson, Winneshiek County, Iowa. He attended school in Fort Atkinson and business college in Minneapolis, Minnesota. On June 26, 1928 he married Beatrice Huinker at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Festina, Iowa. They farmed near Arcadia, Iowa in Carroll County from 1931 to 1949 when they moved to Monona, Iowa in Clayton County. Leonard owned and operated the Culligan softwater business in Monona from 1950 to 1965. After retiring, he sold monuments for Decorah Monument Company. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus third and fourth degrees. He served as Faithful Navigator of the Davis General Assembly and District Deputy and Grand Knight in the Elkader, Iowa and Carroll, Iowa councils.

Leonard died Tuesday, March 27, 1990 at the Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian, Iowa. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Hawes; his parents and 2 sisters, Leona Luzum and Gertrude Marron.

He is survived by his wife Beatrice; a son Lawrence Schissel of Santa Fe, New Mexico; a son-in-law, Gerald Hawes of Lansing, Iowa; 4 grandchildren; a brother Paul Schissel of Calmar, Iowa; and 2 sisters, Alma McEnaney of Waucoma, Iowa and Betty Deeney of Phoenix, Arizona.
