Funeral services for Julia Amelia Roe Bernhardt were held Monday, March 2 at 11:00 A.M at the Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church, rural Waterville, Iowa. Pastor Ken Kimball officiated at the service. Interment was at the church cemetery. Casketbearers were George Kobriger, Billy Roe, Shayne Roe, Shawn Roe, Wayne Olson, Russ Roe, Josh Roe, and Brian Roe.

Julia Amelia, daughter of Alfred and Amelia (Pederson) Olson, was born February 27, 1921 in rural Clermont, Iowa on the Pederson-Olson home farm. She was baptized on April 24, 1921 and confirmed on May 12, 1935, both at the West Clermont Lutheran Church. Julia graduated from the Clermont High School on May 16, 1938. After high School she first worked for Dr. Jerdee in Clermont, then for quite a few years at a Waukon grocery store. For over 30 years Julia was a bookkeeper at the Waukon Equity Co-op. On April 13, 1942 she married Orrin J. Roe at Kahoka, Missouri. Orrin died on October 20, 1977. On December 16, 1983 she married Edward William "Eddie" Bernhardt at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, Iowa. They lived in Monona, Iowa until Eddie's death on July 24, 1992. Julia was a long time member of Toastmistresses and Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church and its WELCA Ladies Aide. She enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Julia died on February 25, 2009. She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; 2 sons, Allen Roe and Russell Roe; 4 sisters, Agnes Ellis, Bessie Hirsch, Irene Thompson, and Gladys Kobriger; and 3 brothers, Olaf Olson, Joseph Olson, and Leonard Olson.

She is survived by her 3 sons, Ron (Roberta) Roe of Carroll, Iowa, Marv Roe and Curt (Cheryl) Roe, both of Waukon, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, Jackie Fober, Brian Roe, Frannie Roe, Russ Roe, Deanna Roe, Shannon Baker, Rachel Curtin, Josh Roe, Sally Roe, Haley Roe, Shawn Roe, Shayne Roe, and Brienne Roe; and 20 great-grandchildren.
