Funeral services for Wilbert W. Wiethorn were held Wednesday, August 18 at 11:00 a.m. at the Garden City United Methodist Church, Monona, Iowa. Rev. Carroll D. Brown of Cedar Rapids, Iowa officiated. Honorary pallbearers were his granddaughters, and active pallbearers were his grandsons. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery. Schultz Funeral Home of Monona, Iowa was in charge of services.

Wilbert Wesley Wiethorn, son of Gilbert Sr. and Clara (Fett) Wiethorn, was born November 25, 1914 in Giard Township, Clayton County, Iowa. He graduated from Monona High School in 1932. On March 28, 1932 Wilbert was united in marriage to Gretchen Henderson at Galena, Illinois. To this union 7 children were born. They farmed in the Monona area for 34 years, retiring in November of 1975. He liked fishing, hunting, and the outdoors. He was an avid sports fan who was the captain of the Miene John Deere softball team. He liked to travel throughout the U.S.A. and enjoyed working with leather.

Wilbert died Sunday, August 15, 1993 at his home in Monona. He had reached the age of 78 years, 8 months, and 20 days. Preceding him in death were his parents, a son,*the son's name was not given* and a grandson, Mark Howard on July 18, 1978.

Wilbert is survived by his wife, Gretchen of Monona, Iowa; 2 sons, Kurt (Shelby) Wiethorn of Clarion, Iowa, and Bradley (Debbie) Wiethorn of Cottage Grove, Minnesota; 4 daughters, Karen (Roger) Cartwright of Des Moines, Iowa, Betty (LeRoy) Howard of Monona, Iowa, Judith (Jack) Mulholland of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Jacquelyn (Loren) Radloff of Monona, Iowa; 17 grandchildren, Brent Wiethorn, Eric Wiethorn, Michael Wiethorn, Jeff Cartwright, Lori Cartwright Smith, Sarah Howard, Joel Mulholland, Joshua Mulholland, Steven Radloff, Stephanie Radloff, Kevin Radloff, Beth Radloff, Stacie Radloff, Brian Radloff, Kristin Wiethorn, Michelle Wiethorn, and Tom Wiethorn; 2 step-grandchildren, Cassie Schneller and Katie Schneller; 3 great-grandchildren, Abigail, Heather, and Cody; 1 brother, Gilbert (Ednah) Wiethorn, Jr. of McGregor, Iowa.
