Drahn were held Monday, September 6 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Monona, Iowa, officiated by Father Daniel Keppler. Pallbearers were Dennis Nieland, Don Nieland, Jeff Koehn, Bob Schott, Randy Mohs, Bob Johanningmeier, Tom Neuhaus, and Robyn Denning. Burial was in the Farmersburg-Wagner Cemetery in Farmersburg, Iowa. Schultz Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Rick Allen Drahn, son of Roger and Virginia (Denning) Drahn, was born December 29, 1953 in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. He spent his childhood years on the family farm near Farmersburg, Iowa. He attended and graduated with the Class of 1972 from M-F-L High School during which time he was active in wrestling, football, 4-H and local church activities. On January 5, 1974, Rick and Mary Jane Nieland were united in marriage at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Monona, Iowa. For the past 25 years, Rick managed the family farm through a dairy and hog operation. He also owned and operated Drahn's Paints & Quarter Horses. Most recently he was the general manager for M's Machine & Mfg. Com. Inc. in Monona, Iowa.
Rick was an active member of the Whistlin' Bit Saddle Club and has served on the board for several years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a devoted son, father, and grandfather.
Rick died Thursday, September 2, 1999 at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Elmer Drahn and his maternal grandfather, R.J. "Bill" Denning.
He is survived by his parents; his wife, Mary Jane; 4 children, Cory (Candace) Drahn, Casey Drahn, Chelsey Drahn, and Chandler Drahn; 2 grandchildren, Chanice Drahn and Chaun'te Drahn; 4 Godchildren, Milisa Drahn, Michael Denning, Ben Nieland, and Summer Nieland; 1 brother, Dennis Drahn of McGregor, Iowa; paternal grandmother June Drahn of Monona, Iowa and maternal grandmother and step-grandfather, Inez (George) Sieglaff of McGregor, Iowa.
