Ruth Alice Hinman

Ruth Alice Hinman, daughter of Clarence and Martha (Matte) Entwisle Thornton (sic), was born July 10, 1905 at Monona, Iowa. She died Monday, September 26, 1994 at the Great River Care Center, McGregor, Iowa. She was 89 years old.

She was united in marriage to Harry H. Hinman April 4, 1922 at the parsonage in Waukon.

She had lived in Monona for 45 years. Ruth was a loving homemaker and mother.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Harry, who died in 1964, her parents; brothers, Ross, Vern, Henry, Lloyd, George, and William Thorton (sic); a sister, Margaret Thorton (sic); five grandsons, Bradley, Clark, Clifford and Dennis Hinman and Douglas Montour.

Survivors include two sons and their wives; Warren and Donnafred Hinman of West Des Moines, James and Dorothy Hinman of Monona, Iowa; three daughters and their husbands, Doris and Alois Swenson of Fort Myers, Fla., Joyce and Donald Montour of McGregor, and Jennifer and Bruce LeClere of Norwood, Minn., 12 grandchildren, Richard and Edward Swenson, Susan Mallett, Carla Miles, Carey Hinman, Phyllis and Gregory Montour, Kathy and Chrystal Starkey, Kim Ellis, Jeffrey and Alayna LeClere; 15 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, two sisters, Daisy Livingood and Frances Harnack; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 28, 1994 at the Garden City United Methodist Church, Monona. Rev. Gary Dobbins officiated. Music was provided by the organist, Rick Benzing. Soloist was Barb Ruff. A duet was sung by Keith and Dixie Kutzbach. Pallbearers were her grandchildren. Schultz's Funeral Home of Monona was in charge of services. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery.
