Contributor: Connie Ellis (SCHLITTER FAMILY RESEARCHER)Funeral services for Eldred S. Schlitter were held Friday, August 6 at 11:00 a.m. at Garden City United Methodist Church, Monona, Iowa. Pastor Dennis Gilbert officiated. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Smith, Don Drahn, Randy Williams, Robert Tayek, David Schlitter, Paul Kilcher, and Joe Bakke. Pallbearers were Kurt Gerdes, Jeff Woodman, Bruce Mielke, Brad Jacobs, Gary Larson, and Roger Schlitter. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery. Schultz Funeral Home of Monona, Iowa was in charge of the services.
Eldred Sutter Schlitter, son of Theodore and Nettie (Sutter) Schlitter, was born April 9, 1902 at Watson, Iowa. He graduated from the Monona High School. Eldred was united in marriage to Cornelia Kaiser on February 24, 1936 at Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Cornelia died March 18, 1975. On March 1, 1976 Eldred married Wilma (Hazlet) Gilbert. She died March 26, 1977. Eldred was self-employed as a farmer, retiring in 1965. He enjoyed gardening.
Eldred died Wednesday, August 4, 1999 at the Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin Memorial Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents; his two wives, Cornelia and Wilma; 2 brothers, Gaylord Schlitter and Everett Schlitter; and 2 sisters at birth.
Survivors include 3 step-daughters, Carole (James) Gerdes of Monona, Iowa, Shirley (Paul) Jackson of Wilmington, Delaware, and Norma (Alvin) Grahn of Woodburn, Oregon; 11 step-grandchildren and 24 step-great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-great grandchildren; 1 sister, Ivanelle Larson of Postville, Iowa; and 12 nieces and nephews.

Monona- Eldred S. Schlitter, 97, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999, in Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien, Wis., after a short illness. Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Garden City United Methodist Church, by Pastor Dennis Gilbert. Burial: Monona City Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona, where a prayer service begins at 8 p.m.
Survivors include three daughters, Carole Gerdes of Monona, Shirley Jackson of Wilmington, Del., and Norma Grahn of Woodburn, Ore.
