Henry Carl Preitauer was born 15 Nov. 1815 and died at St. Sebald 17 Dec. 1889. He was also known as Heinrich and Charles. He may have come to Iowa from Ortenburg, Bavaria, Germany as early as 1853. His first wife was Marie Niedermeier with whom he had at least 3 children
Catherine (1847-1910... m. Isador Fleihler
Martin (1856-1941 ...m. Elizabeth Shuchmann), and
Rose (1862-1941 ...m.Christian Kamm, ?Baker, Julius Koenemann).His second wife may have been Catherine Bush.
On 9 Jan. 1867 , he married Julia Tashner. They had 8 children- John (1867-1896)

Gottleib John ( 1870-1876)
Anna (1872-1942...m. John Vogel)
Jacob (1874-1963... married Edith Esther Bentley)
Gustav (1878-1917... married Cora Kirmse)
Fred (1882- 1905) and
Julia (1885-1949) ...m. Frank Sitterly).Henry was a farmer, and in 1885 he and Julia had a homestead in Cass township just south of St. Sebald. He is buried in an unmarked grave in the St. Sebald Cemetery, plot H 33, grave 1.
