Dr. L.L. Renshaw
Dr. Leslie Lamont Renshaw was born near National, in this county, March 5, 1859, died at Monona March 31, 1912. His age was 56 years and 26 days. He was raised on the farm, receiving a common school education completing his studies at the State University and graduating from the medical department thirty-three years ago, entering upon the practice as physician and surgeon at Farmersberg, near his boyhood home in 1879.

He was united in marriage to Miss Amanda Kinsley at the Kinsley farm home in Giard Township Nov. 21, 1883. Five children were born to this union, two proceeding to the grave in infancy. The surviving are David, Kinsley and Carlton, who with the wife mourn the loss of an indulgent parent, a devoted husband and an honored citizen.

He was one of the original stockholders in the establishment of the Monona State Bank, a Director and Vice President, and on the death of President A.M. Davis, succeeded to the presidency. He was a careful shrewd, conservative business man, the success of the bank and the high standing it has attained to this community is largly due to the [large tear in paper] ..... Renshaw was a republican, of the Lincoln type, and took a deep interest in political affairs generally. He was outspoken, decided upon public matters and was ever ready to lend a helping hand for the uplifting and moral advancement of the community. He was a member of the city council at the organization of the municipal government, and mayor for a portion of one term. In politics as in his business standpoint, he hated and condemned all "shams". He had to time for trickery and deceit, so often played in political contests. He stood for the open, square deal, a fair chance and open field to all on their respective merits.

In the passing of Dr. Renshaw this community parts with a progressive citizen, a clean upright man, an honorable true and [illegible] friend, in the social life in the [illegible] hives of business and in the political activity marking the biennial periods of election contests. He was an all around good man and could be depended upon in any emergency. Hundreds of families whom he has professionally attended can arise and [paper is torn in several spots] him blessed. He was ----- charitable ----- his sl ----- in ----- every mov ----- of the people at large ----- The family and a la ----- immediate relatives. ----- and sincere sympathy of the community. The Doctor's illness [paper torn] long duration though he had been ailing for the past year more or less, he did not take seriously to his bed until about three weeks ago. The best of representative medical skill attended him but to no avail. His time had come. His life work was done. He passed over the divide surrounded by a loving family and in the stillness of the day closed his eyes in the God in glory, peace and contentment. The funeral was held at the home "The Maples" on Tuesday at 2 p.m., largely attended. Rev. James Bird officiating. The [tear in paper] remains were laid to rest in the Monona cemetery.
