Funeral services for Mrs. Enno Luebbers were conducted this afternoon in the Luebbers home and St. Paul's Lutheran church by Rev. F.R. Ludwig. Burial was in the Postville cemetery. Mrs. Luebbers, who was 79 years old, passed away Sunday evening at 8:45.
As Miss Marie Bugenhagen she was born in Germany, September 22, 1861, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Bugenhagen. When she was 25 years old she accompanied relatives to this country. Another passenger on the boat was Enno Luebbers, who was also coming to this country to make his home. Shortly after locating in the United States, Miss Bugenhagen and Mr. Luebbers were married, the ceremony being performed April 19, 1886, at Garnavillo.
The newlyweds moved to Nebraska after their marriage, living there for three years. In 1890 they returned to Iowa, locating on a farm south of Luana, where they lived for the next 27 years. They retired from their farm, moving to Postville. It was in Postville that Mr. Luebbers passed away on April 13, 1939. Three years before his death, Mr. and Mrs. Luebbers observed their golden wedding.
Mrs. Luebbers is survived by four sons and two daughters: Carl Luebbers of Dubuque, Wm. Luebbers of Luana, Henry Luebbers of Farmersburg and Harry Luebbers of Kenosha, Wis., and Mrs. Roy Pixler of Luana and Mrs. Louise Wegner of Postville. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, a brother, Wm. Bugenhagen of Luana, a sister, Mrs. Minnie Landt of Luana, two half-brothers, Henry Bugenhagen of Cresco and Rudolph Bugenhagen of near Postville and a half-sister, Mrs. John Eberling of Cresco.
